So here we are. We have arrived to the hotel. The President Hotel located at 1423 Collins Avenue is conveniently located to pretty much everything in SoBe.
On the other side of the good, we pulled up (after the cab had to turn around because he missed it) to find that the renovations as listed on the web page were not completed in December 2007. There is no sign on the front of the hotel so just be on the look out for the building that has plastic sheeting covering the first floor windows and ropes dangling down the front.
Ok so not the best first impression, but hey we weren't paying a million bucks so hey why not.
We go through the front door and into the lobby where one day there will be a nice bar and lounge area, to check in.
Reservation was listed as for tomorrow. The cute young clerk from another nation fixed it and checked us in to a "very nice" room on the fourth floor.
Ok so to the elevator which states can not handle more than four people (no really you can't fit more than four small pygmies in this elevator) so the two of us with our luggage was a tight fit, but hey we didn't have to carry it up the stairs, plus #1.
We arrived to the floor which must be one of the recently completed floors. New tile floors throughout the entire floor and into the rooms. Fresh paint (although a bit stark being all white).
We opened the door to find the room a reasonable size for the Art Deco district. Brand new furnishings in a modern decor. 42" flat screen television. One wall had a wall mural in a palm theme. The remaining walls were white or mirrored. There was a crystal chandelier in the center of the room that really needed a dimmer, but still looked nice.
I have to say I loved the green floor length curtains that matched the green in the mural.
All in all not to bad. Even better when you expect nothing. :)
More shall follow as the vacation continues.
