Well its now almost a week since Mark and I went to see the movie. And I have had lots of time to think about it especially with the soundtrack on my iPod.
I have to say I only thought it was OK. I wasn't blown away, I wasn't blathering on about how fabulous Jennifer and Beyonce were or what a scene stealer Eddie Murphy was... although there were a couple moments that when he smiled I could only think of the donkey from Shrek.
It was OK.
Now to be fair, they had quite a high set of expectations to reach. I mean really now, it was going to be hard to match the high energy of the original Broadway show.
And for some of us that have been humming and singing the soundtrack since we first saw it in 1987 on Broadway there were a few moments that were changed and to be honest not really sure why... (the part in the club where CC comes to ask Effie to sing his song was spoken in the movie and there was a "new" song in the background).
So there it is, my totally subjective and non-professional review of Dreamgirls.
P.S. Jennifer Hudson sang her heart out and is totally on par with Jennifer Holliday, the original Effie.
